About Mont Saint-Michel Abbey

The Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel is one of the most emblematic monuments in France and a masterpiece of medieval architecture. Located on a rocky island in the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, its origins date back to 708, when, according to tradition, the archangel Michael appeared to Bishop Aubert of Avranches and asked him to build a sanctuary there. Over the centuries, the complex became an important monastery and pilgrimage center.

What to see during the visit

The audioguide tour allows visitors to walk around the abbey and discover some of its most representative spaces, such as the impressive suspended cloister, the monks’ refectory and the majestic Gothic rooms that are part of the ensemble known as “The Wonder”. During the tour, visitors can admire the complex architecture of the monastery and enjoy panoramic views of the bay surrounding Mont-Saint-Michel, one of the most unique landscapes in Europe.
