Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1- What documentation do I need for access to the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel?

To access the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, it is usually enough to bring a valid ticket, which you can present on paper or on your mobile/tablet. If you are going to enter at a free or reduced rate, you must also bring an identity document and valid proof of entitlement, such as proof of age, unemployment, disability or professional card. In addition, minors must be accompanied by an adult. Please also note that at the entrance there is a security check with visual inspection of bags, large suitcases and backpacks are not allowed and the monument does not have a left-luggage office. The village of Mont-Saint-Michel is free to enter; tickets are required to visit the abbey.

2- How to get to the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel?

The abbey is located at the top of the village of Mont-Saint-Michel, so you must first access the mountain and then climb up to the monument.

You can reach Mont-Saint-Michel by car, train, bus or bicycle. The most common option is to go by car to the official parking lots and, from there, continue on the free Le Passeur shuttle or walk along the footbridge to the mountain. The abbey is located in the upper part of the village, so it is advisable to allow extra time: from the parking area to the abbey entrance the walk usually takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour, depending on the crowds.

If you are traveling by public transport, the nearest station is Pontorson, located about 9 km from Mont-Saint-Michel, with bus connections to the destination. There are also frequent connections from Paris-Montparnasse via Rennes, Villedieu-les-Poêles or Dol-de-Bretagne, as well as direct buses from Rennes on certain routes.

3- Can I bring the tickets in digital format?

Yes. The e-ticket can be carried in digital format and displayed on your cell phone or tablet; it is not mandatory to print it out. The official ticket office of the Centre des Monuments Nationaux also indicates that it is advisable to download the e-ticket before the visit, because the connection at the entrance may be limited.

4- Do children need tickets?

Children under 18 years of age can enter the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel free of charge. However, it is advisable to bring a document proving their age, and remember that minors must be accompanied by an adult to visit the monument.

5- Can I modify or cancel my tickets?

No. Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey tickets purchased on the official website cannot be modified, cancelled or refunded once payment has been confirmed, except in exceptional cases related to restrictions or closure of the monument.

6- Can I exercise my right of withdrawal?

No, as stated in Law 3/2014, of March 27, which amends the revised text of the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users and other complementary laws, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007, of November 16. As it is well indicated in its article 103, regarding the exceptions to the right of withdrawal:

l) The provision of lodging services for purposes other than housing, transportation of goods, car rental, food or services related to leisure activities, if the contracts provide for a specific date or period of performance.

7- Are the activities accessible?

The Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel is not an easily accessible monument for people with reduced mobility, as it is located at the top of the mountain and the route includes a large number of steps. The official information also indicates that access is very difficult for PRM, that there are no ramps or elevators in the village or in the abbey, and that to reach the monument you have to climb almost 300 steps.

Even so, the abbey has some specific aids available. A joëlette or hand chair is available on request, but must be reserved in advance and is subject to specific conditions; the official website recommends ordering it at least 4 weeks before the visit. Guide and assistance dogs are also allowed.

8- Are you the official sales site?
